(First off, I think the word update is a strange thing to look at. Perhaps is just that I haven’t slept well in several days. Or other reasons, but the look of the word is pretty interesting.)
Anywho, what have been up to for my thesis. It’s been this on growing process of trying to figure out what I really want to as animation. For the most part the previous projects I’ve been doing are just goofing around and figuring out how animation works. I really wanted to do something in the interactive realm; however, comparing my expertise of things I found out that I really like making hands on things. You know? (computer stuff is fun in all, but it pisses me off that you have to go out of your way to tell the computer what you want when it’s so much easier doing by your hands…) Something that’s actually tangible- completely able to be seen in the full three dimensions. So I decided on creating an animation that is absolutely beautiful. Handmade. The works!
Also, I thought it would be cool to not cut down on the detail. Because that’s what I’ve been doing most of the time on my animations because of time issues and deadlines. But, I think I’ve learned my limits and how I can sort out the day to figure out how I’m going to get this accomplished.
Finally, here is what my thesis is about. “Somnium,” The concept is simple, something absolutely gorgeous and experiment with the whole 2d vs 3d realm. No colors because I don’t have time for that. But I can do detail.
The story is like indian jones in a surreal landscape and other world. Oscillating shards of buildings and creepy crawly creatures. I have a working story board and I’m currently working on character Ideas. I’m not sure how much detail I want to do on the character because that’ll get annoying to do that much detail. I know I can do it, but I’m not sure if can balance with my other liberal arts.
Anywho, story- it starts of looking at this cool looking shrine that is slowly rotating in different directions. In the center is a pedestal that holds a magical relic of the an ancient civilization. There is this guy that enters into frame, several transitions in. He picks up what seem to be old raggedy gauntlets. He tries them on, making weird currious expression- trying to figure out how the relic works. Until he hears something in the background. Startled he looks out to the bridges that he traveled to get there. Slowly but surely- creatures start to appear. In a panic, he looks about to find an exit- however doesn’t come to find one. So he jumps off the shrine and plunges into a empty void of oscillating edifices and land. The creatures keep pursuing him- but he manages to enter another door that shoots him into this forest. There is another creature sitting in the forest- frightened he wallops closer towards the adventure. As he closes in- he guards himself but also activating the relics. Fight happens- thinks that it’s over but the other creatures catch up on him.
